A Data Center Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, maintaining, and securing the physical and virtual infrastructure of data centers. Here are the basic requirements for this role:

1\. Educational Background & Certifications

Degree: Bachelor’s in Computer Science, IT, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Certifications (Preferred but Not Mandatory):

Networking: CCNA, CCNP

Cloud & Virtualization: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, VMware VCP

Data Center Infrastructure: CDCP (Certified Data Center Professional), CDCS (Certified Data Center Specialist)

Security & Compliance: CISSP, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer

2\. Technical Skills

✅ Networking & Connectivity

Knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls

Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar networking equipment

✅ Server & Storage Management

Experience with rack servers, blade servers, SAN/NAS storage

Knowledge of RAID configurations, fiber channel, and backup solutions

✅ Cloud & Virtualization

Familiarity with VMware, Hyper-V, KVM for virtual environments

Understanding of AWS, Azure, Google Cloud integration with on-prem data centers

✅ Power & Cooling Systems

Understanding of UPS, power distribution units (PDU), cooling (HVAC), redundancy (N+1, 2N)

✅ Security & Compliance

Familiarity with ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA (if healthcare-related)

Knowledge of firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint security

✅ Automation & Monitoring

Experience with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools

Scripting knowledge (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation

3\. Soft Skills

✔ Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

✔ Ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 data center environment

✔ Good communication skills for collaboration with IT teams and vendors

✔ Experience in project management for infrastructure upgrades and expansions
